Dulles International Airport (IAD) is 35 miles from downtown Washington, in Chantilly, Virginia. Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) is 34 miles north of downtown in Linthicum, Maryland. Including wait and transfer times, by Amtrak and Metro train this trip could take between 50 minutes and 1 hour 25 minutes, while a taxicab could take roughly an hour. The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA.com), known colloquially as Metro and branded Metrorail, is the heavy rail rapid transit system serving the Washington metropolitan area. Metro provides convenient subway train service between downtown and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) and Dulles International Airport (IAD), and transfers from Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) from Amtrak. To access Metrorail, passengers are first required to purchase a rechargeable SmarTrip® Card, which costs $10 ($2 for the initial card and $8 in stored fare), at any WMATA station kiosk. The card does not expire and may be reloaded with additional funds in any amount at any time during your pending or future stays in Washington.
Connections for passengers arriving at Amtrak’s Union Station (50 Massachusetts Ave. NE) can be made to Metrorail’s Red Line Union Station location downstairs from the concourse.

Directions: From the terminals, follow the signs to the walkway leading to the National Airport Metro Station. Board a Blue Line Train toward Largo Town Center. Disembark at Metro Center Station and transfer to the Red Line on the upper level to Shady Grove. The Dupont Circle Metro Station on the Red Line is closest Metro Station to the hotel. Exit at the north end of the Station to Q Street and walk four blocks north on Connecticut Avenue to the Washington Hilton, located at 1919 Connecticut Avenue, NW.
Directions: Go to the Silver Line Express bus ticket counter on the lower level (arrival/baggage claim), exit the terminal via Arrival Door 4 to the bus. Transfer to the Wiehle-Reston Silver Line Station. At the Metro Center Station, transfer to the Red Line on the upper level to Shady Grove. At the Dupont Cicle Station, exit at the north end of the Station to Q Street and walk four blocks north on Connecticut Avenue to the Washington Hilton.
