Sylvia E. Lyles


Sylvia E. Lyles Dr. Lyles has more than 35 years of experience in federal service since beginning her career in 1980 with the U.S. Department of Commerce. From 1984 through 2005, Dr. Lyles served as Education Services Specialist, Program Director, and Acting Director of Education for the U.S. Army’s Continuing Education System, Installation Management Agency. In 2005, she joined the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Career and Technical Education, where she served as Chief for the Programs Administration Branch (discretionary and formula programs), and later became the Deputy Director, Division of Academic and Technical Education. In June 2007, she joined the Office of Academic Improvement, Office of Elementary and Secondary Education (OESE), where she currently serves as the Director. Recently, Ms. Lyles became Acting Director for the Office of Early Learning.

Since 2010, Dr. Lyles has served on the faculty of Northcentral University, where she facilitates classes for students seeking Ph.D. and Ed.D. degrees in education, training and development. Dr. Lyles holds a bachelor’s in education/secondary education from Old Dominion University, a master’s in education/counseling from Boston University, and a doctorate in education and organizational performance from Capella University.
